| Name February 6, 2004 09:35 AM PST frankly, why be fussy about others names? how many times have any of us like to be called by our full name? if i were balasubramaniam, i would definitely mind being called balasubramaniam every time! as far as the individual is fine with it, i dont think it is even a matter of discussion. | ||
| Bharani February 5, 2004 10:08 AM PST yes firebird, our names are our basic identity...we shd never make any compromises...i know people who are so fussy if you dont pronounce their name right...:-) hey chakra (hope u dont mind being called chakra :))..urs is definetely one of the not-so-very-common names...but i bet there would have been several short forms for it... | ||
| Chakkarapani Sampath February 4, 2004 03:10 PM PST This is really really weird. I am really proud of my name coz of two reasons - 1. I have never had another Chakkarapani in any of my class or workplace or whereever. So, no confusions on that count. 2. Name is quite unique.. people remember me coz of my name (ofcourse, not for my deeds!). While in India, I have never cut short my name but here in UK I have to do that else these guys find it hard to pronounce it. Everytime I have to introduce myself, they look me up & down. | ||
| firebird February 4, 2004 02:48 PM PST The weirdest short name is usually for all the ABCDs . I remember being introduced to guy who called himself 'Balls' I was impressed and then I slyly saw that his name actually was Balasubramanian Now either we Indians have short names for our kids or be proud of whatever name we have. I used to be terribly embarassed when people could not pronounce my name, but then in Germany when you meet people with names like 'Ivonne Tanja Jedvaj' which is pronounced I-Won Tan-ya Yed-wat' and she was really proud of it , then it really dawned that we have to be proud of what we are called, if not change your name ..but dont ever mangle..or cut short your names , they make no sense. Well for the american geek...he is what he is a geek ...period | ||
