| bharani November 20, 2005 08:54 AM PST there is no such color significance as far as i know. the sticker bindi is a modern thing. conventionally, only saffron (kumkum) is worn between the eyebrows. its purpose is to ward of evil eye, to appear auspicious and the scientific reason is also that pressure at that point stimulates the pituitary gland... | ||
| Sam November 20, 2005 03:43 AM PST Hi And talking about women and colors, I have seen that women wear bindis of various colors. Does the color signify anything? Like if a woman wears a red colored bindi she is married, and if she is wearing a blue colored one she is not? :-) Just curious. sam | ||

| Sam November 7, 2005 01:55 AM PST Hi I thought Billy Joe's lyrics were not all negatives. It is a mixed bag like anything else in life. And I think that mother is the role of a very giving, self -less person. And traditionally, I guess Indian women are supposed to don the role of a subordinate, or more of a giving person, which is not good either. And men look towards women as a sort of shelter from tbe big bad world. Lots of Hindi songs will depict that way, as in this gazal from Jagit Singh. Tumko dekha to yeh khayal aaya zindagi dhoop tum ghana chaaya...:-) | ||

| Sam October 29, 2005 09:55 AM PDT Colors are associated with emotions. And women in general know to use them better (via the colors of their clothes) than men. | ||
